Heydar Aliyev, the founder of modern Azerbaijan, was commemorated at his monument in Sarıyer on the 20th anniversary of his passing. The ceremony was attended by Azerbaijan Consul General in Istanbul Narmina Mustafayeva, Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, members of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and State, businesspeople, and Azerbaijani citizens.

The commemoration ceremony began with the playing of the Azerbaijani and Turkish national anthems, followed by speeches from Consul General Mustafayeva and Mayor Genç.

Consul General Mustafayeva and Mayor Genç, who laid flowers at the monument of Heydar Aliyev in Kireçburnu, also placed flowers at the Atatürk monument in the same park, commemorating both leaders.
